Cocoa Butter Soap with Grapefruit + Thyme

I think it's fitting for me to share a soap recipe right from the beginning of this site. When my friend Tiffany and I started Offbeat + Inspired almost three years ago, it was largely due to soap making. Random, I know. Tiffany had been making soap for a while and started to share with me how to do it. She wrote up a tutorial which remains the most helpful and comprehensive one I've ever come across online. That tutorial, along with recipes, DIY projects and other fun projects, quickly became our blog, Offbeat + Inspired.

Now that I'm getting this new blog going, I couldn't help but reminisce about the start of Offbeat three years ago, and it just made sense to kick this site off with soap making. The recipe below only includes basic ingredients, not step-by-step instructions. But don't worry! If you haven't made cold-process soap before, Tiffany's full tutorial over at Offbeat + Inspired will give you all the information you need to know to get started.

Cocoa Butter Soap with Grapefruit + Thyme
Makes about 16 4 ounce bars of soap

Base Oils
6 oz. avocado oil
6 oz. cocoa butter
15 oz. coconut oil
15 oz. olive oil

Lye Solution
13 oz. water
6 oz. lye

Additives
Add 3 ounces grapefruit essential right before mixture reaches trace. I also added a few sprigs of fresh thyme to the top of the soap after I poured it into the mold.

Remember to let your soaps cure for 4-6 weeks before using or gifting!
